Sean Irvine
Managing Director, Mojo Ventures
Sean Irvine is the Managing Director at Mojo Ventures where he leads a consulting practice and a small investment fund. He is a mentor or Executive in Residence at several technology accelerators such as Foresight Canada. He has corporate governance experience as a director at several Canadian technology companies, a Canadian venture capital firm, and several non-profit organizations. He has been advising executive level conversation for 40 years. His consulting practice is focused helping business owners to grow profits, and to produce maximum returns for early investors. Day to day, he coaches CEO’s CTO’s and CMO’s using an array of simple tools to streamline decision-making and a set effective targets. In addition, clients get access to his well curated network of fractional service providers.
As an academic for 18 years, Sean taught Intellectual property & Business Strategy at the University of British Columbia to MBA students, and Intellectual Property & Technology Commercialization to the Master of Engineering Management Program.
As a public servant, he held various program development and program delivery roles ranging from NRC IRAP to Western Economic Diversification. He started with the federal government (CIPO) as a patent examiner where he issued over a thousand Canadian patents. A a senior policy advisor he wrote many briefings that supported everything form "Question Period Cards" to due diligence efforts around major infrastructure investments led by the western provincial governments. As a program designer and manager, he spent a decade at Industry Canada investing in western Canada's life sciences industries, and half a decade at Fisheries and Oceans Canada investing in sustainable aquaculture.
In the private sector, he is a business and technical innovator. As an engineer and project manager, he oversaw various complex construction projects in the field such as the installation of the first underground municipal services in Iqaluit under permafrost conditions. As owner of a start-up technology company he navigates the nine conversations of the LEAN canvas. As a director at several small technology firms he leads strategic direction around competitive strategy and business growth. In different roles, he has managed winning teams for over 30 years.
As a skilled negotiator, he’s led labor negotiations, real estate transactions, technology transfer transactions, and more. Win-win negotiations are in his DNA.
He is a skilled communicator having crafted and edited hundreds of term sheets, investment pitch decks, go-to market strategies, sales playbooks, and more. Sean has helped to shape many sales and marketing messages over four decades. Storytelling and .
